Treatment
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
is a system of diagnosis and treatment and refers to a broad
range of medicine practices sharing common theoretical
concepts which have been developed in China and look back on
a tradition of several thousands of years, including various
forms of acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage therapy, and
dietary therapy.
One of the unique aspects of TCM is that the diagnosis and
treatment is not based on physical symptoms, but on the
identification of patterns. The culmination of signs and
symptoms of disease show an underlying reason, or root
cause, of why the symptoms exist therefore displaying a
pattern of imbalance. The treatment of disease in TCM is
through the deeper, underlying cause rather than the masking
of symptoms.
During your first visit, we will take a detailed medical
history, discuss your symptoms, and examine your pulse and
tongue. After arriving at a specific diagnostic conclusion,
we will explain you the nature of your problem and what
treatment is recommended. We will also tell you what
benefits and risks there are to the proposed treatment, what
other treatment options are available to you through this
practitioner or by referral to another practitioner or
physician.
The number of treatments required will vary depending on the
nature, severity and duration of the complaint, as well as
the general health and response to the treatment of the
individual. Generally, acute conditions respond fast, while
chronic or degenerative conditions require longer treatment.
Treatment is applied according to the diagnosis, and one or
several of the following techniques will be incorporated in
the treatment.
